Zovirax Cold Sore Cream

Aciclovir 5% Creamis a treatment for cold sores ( cold sores on the lips or around the mouth) caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1-2. It contains the active ingredient aciclovir 5%. It is applied directly to the cold sore site - the area which has the cold sore on it. The cold sore appears as a blister on the inside of the skin and a small itchy rash on the outside of the skin. The cold sore rash usually starts in the back and lasts for 4 to 5 days. If it continues for more than 5 days, it should be treated with a topical steroid and should be observed for any new cold sore rash or new cold sore rash that has not healed after several days. The cold sore rash is usually blisters around the mouth (or around the eyes). However, blisters have also appeared in the nose and on the noselip.
